The Lodge Facilities

Opal Ski Club offers simple but comfortable accommodation all year round.

It's comprised of 3 levels:

Level One entry to the lodge with wet area including drying room, ski storage, toilet/laundry as well as 2 bedrooms, each with an ensuite bathroom.

Level Two consists of kitchen, dining area, lounge room opening to a large balcony and a further 2 bedrooms, each with an ensuite bathroom.

Level Three consists of 2 bedrooms, each with an ensuite bathroom.

The lodge will accommodate up to 24 people at a time.

The lodge is beautifully warm and cosy in the winter and bright and airy throughout the summer. The lodge does not have a telephone, however mobile phone reception is very good (usual mobile phone etiquette applies to the use of phones in living areas). The lodge provides all pillows, and some blankets. All you need to bring are towels and a pillowcase and sleeping bag or doona. Ensuite bathrooms include liquid handwash, toilet paper and bathroom cleaning equipment.

The club booking officer appoints a lodge manager who is responsible for the smooth operation of the lodge but not a caretaker. Guests are required to clean up after themselves and each bunkroom is assigned some basic cleaning tasks which are to be done prior to vacating your room at the end of your stay. A full list of tasks can be found on the back of each bunkroom door and the main noticeboard.

Club rules

There are very few rules in the Club and they are all about caring for the building and its occupants. We do have a 'no outdoor shoe' policy throughout the lodge which includes all bunkrooms and living areas, so it's advisable to bring slippers, trainers or thick socks to walk around the lodge in. All ski equipment and summer activity equipment must be stored in racks provided and clothing must be stored in racks in the drying room. Stands are available for bikes during Summer on Level 1. And finally, the lodge is a non-smoking lodge.

Fire Safety

Opal Ski Club has a fire evacuation plan in place with instructions and signage strategically positioned throughout the lodge. Please familiarise yourself with all exit points and the assembly point on your arrival.

Cooking and eating

The lodge has a modern kitchen where guests are encouraged to prepare their own meals.

All of the basic ingredients are complimentary including: tea, coffee, sugar, salt, pepper, some herbs, honey, vegemite, tomato sauce, cooking oil, cling wrap, foil, tea towels etc.

The lodge has crockery, cutlery, saucepans, bowls, frying pans, glasses, etc. Cooking facilities are gas cooktop, gas oven, microwave, toaster, rice cooker, slow cooker, coffee plungers, sandwich maker, electric beaters and dishwasher. Generally, people do buy lunch at one of many cafes and restaurants throughout the village or on the ski slopes for convenience (soup, pasta, etc.).

Alternatively Opal Ski Club is a 10-minute walk from the village centre for lunch back at the lodge. There is a free shuttle bus that takes you around the village during the ski season and will pick up and drop off within 50 metres of the lodge.

Wet area central bench must remain clear at all times.

Remember during the ski season you do have to pack everything you intend to bring to the mountain so be smart, pack well and pack watertight. There is a supermarket in the village. At all other times of the year easy vehicle access and parking is available outside the lodge.
